Cloud-based SCADA as a service in oil & gas

What happens to supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) with the introduction of Cloud and Edge computing? In the oil & gas industry, as in others, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) must be considered the most common means for interfacing with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), remote terminal units (RTU) and other control instruments and devices.

What’s different about the upstream oil & gas industry is the remote location of its production assets, making it difficult and expensive to service well sites and the equipment there installed.

The advent of Cloud computing allows use of a local edge node device to connect SCADA with a Cloud-hosted system. One of the biggest benefits is ease of installation. Using companies have hesitated, however, to institute actual Cloud-based control, as opposed to simply monitoring, for remote assets.

One other good question — what impact does so-called edge computing have on the equation? These and other SCADA-in-the-oil & gas-industry-related questions will be discussed in this webinar.
